On the late afternoon of 11 June 323 BC Alexander died in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon. At that time he was aged 33. The story of his death is somewhat mysterious, numerous theories have been proposed: poisoning (by the sons of Antipater or others), following sickness after heavy drinking at a party, or reactions to the malaria he had “controlled”. It also is mysterious because of the sources from the “Royal diary”.

He later on left the table, took a shower, went to bed, and went back drinking, three times in a row. The last time, he went back to bed with the fever already beginning.
